WHAT CAUSES ROOT CANALS? and ARE ROOT CANALS AVOIDABLE?

ANSWER: Most dentists and dental educators will state that root canals (irreversible damage to the nerve/ dental pulp within the tooth

resulting in inflammation, breakdown, necrosis, infection, and usually pain) is caused by deep decay, repeated dental procedures on a tooth, cracks or breakage of

the tooth with or without large fillings, or trauma to the face. THE FACT IS THAT THIS ANSWER DOES NOT MENTION THAT THE MAIN CAUSE OF ROOT CANALS IS NEGLECT EITHER BY THE DENTIST OR BY THE PATIENT AND IN ADDITION MANY TIMES THE CAUSE IS INADEQUATE OR POOR QUALITY DENTAL CARE. ROOT CANALS ARE 100% AVOIDABLE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TRAUMA. At Wilton Dental Associates we are able to predict and prevent root canals to the point where they are an extreme rarity.
